Surrounded with cars

When I was little, my father had several passenger jeepneys plying the route from Binangonan to Crossing and back. He had several motor boats that went out to the deeper part of the lake (laot) every single day to gather tons of snails or “suso” to feed to the thousands of ducks. The ducks’ eggs were gathered and sold to the balut makers. I was surrounded with chickens, ducks, eggs, pigs, ice candy or ice pops but have never imagined that someday I would be surrounded with cars. I did dream however to have my own car before turning 30. I remember telling myself that my first car would be a Benz. That did not happen though. At the age of 30, I was driving a hand-me-down car from my Kuya Lito. But still very grateful.

Although my father could have probably afforded a decent-looking and reasonably-priced car that time, he never bought one for himself because our education was his priority. When I was little I promised to buy him a car when I grow up.
I did manage to do that, made him proud, made myself proud.

This technician took off his shirt because it was so hot. He looked embarrassed upon seeing me.

Rhandy is a Mechanical Engineer. I hired him a few months ago. During the interview, he would utter and repeat my questions.
Me——- So why did you take up Mechanical Engineering?
Randy—- (pabulong: why you take up Mechanical Engineering)
Me—— How is your course related to Automotive Technology?
Randy—- (pabulong:) how is your course related to automotive technology)
Me—— and why are you repeating every word that I say…..?
Randy— Para po masigurado ko na nakuha ko yung tanong nyo..

I had second thoughts that moment if he would be a perfect fit, but I hired him anyway and so far he’s okay. Not excellent, but he has a good personality and he has the desire to keep on learning.

Dozens of bio data are placed on my desk everyday. I screen, interview, hire. Very few are qualified for the positions available.
