Touring Balikbayans

Two of my high school classmates and town mates are here for the Holy Week and for our alumni celebration.

They’ve been to Villa Escudero, Santa Clara, Padre Pio in Eastwood, Chinatown, MOA, Megamall, with their relatives. They are going to Regina Rica, Puero Princesa in Palawan next.

Where else can I bring my balikbayan guests but to Tagaytay.

They arrived at our house at past 11 am. Kwentuhan muna over a plate of Cibo potato chips and ice cold Coca-cola. Picture-picture muna.

Sarry Callanta was my classmate from elementary to high school. She also went to UST and we shared a room at the house of Justice Benjing Capili while in college. She married Olan, also from Binangonan.

Sarry’s youngest child, Lyn, is my inaanak. I havent’ given her any gift since they moved to Los Angeles. Sarry said we’re quits kasi Nyke is her inaanak.     Alice (far right)  is based in San Francisco.  She’s a nurse and teaches once a week at the University of San Francisco.

Our dirty kitchen has become popular. Guests always request to see it.
Makalat na.

Although we’re all very hungry since it’s already two pm, I brought them first to the Our Lady of Lourdes. Eto naman driver ko, he went up the church’s driveway and stopped right in front of the entrance, perfect timing, there’s a wedding and they were all at the entrance waiting for the bride!

Our SUV pa naman is white. Sarry and I were wearing white.
A———– “naku naku, Nars, wag kang tumigil, dumiretso ka, may kasal pala”.
A———– “Nakakahiya, baka mapagkamalan akong lola of the bride”.
Sarry was dead worried about her one year and seven month old first and only apo who’s in a hospital in Fresno, CA for fluids in her lungs. She offered prayers and candle for her apo’s recovery.

Writing down prayer requests relieves me of worry. It gives me the comfort that God will be there for me.

Nung araw uso ang all white for the groom. I haven’t seen a groom in all white for decades. Dati pag naka all white sasabihin, naka pang burol daw. When I was in college naman, basta naka all white, D O M daw.

White groomWe left before the bride arrived.
