TOUR OF USS DEWEY

Invitation says 6 pm but I was an eager beaver, I gave an hour travel allowance and
it helped that traffic along Roxas Blvd was fairly light.  I arrived at the pier at exactly 5:30 pm.
Look, no billboards unlike in EDSA

By the time the tour  started at a little past 6 pm my make-up had already been erased by the strong wind.
The USS Dewey is a destroyer. It has 250 – 300 crews compared to the 5,000 in USS John Stennis.

Here are the photos:

Maj. J. Dopp, he’s just been assigned here in Manila from Washington. He arrived two weeks ago and would most likely be detailed here for 3 years.  Attention ladies,  this good-looking officer and a gentleman is single.
Welcome to the Philippines.

Sorry boys, she’s taken.    She’s engaged to be married next year to a Marine Corps officer.

We climbed several levels and had to go up and down narrow and extremely steep ladders like this one.  Knowing how clumsy I am, I was so proud of myself when I did not fall.  I have gathered enough confidence, but when we were going down the ladders, my worry was no longer about me tripping or  falling, but  the guy behind me could fall, directly hitting me with his weight and killing me.

The tour lasted for almost 2 hours.  I was starving because  I did not eat lunch.  I ate a slice of turkey and cheese roll, chicken wings, garlic mushroom buttons and some zucchini.

US Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas is so charming.  Washington certainly knows how to choose their envoys to our country.   They’ve all been great.

Chief Officer Aaron Cobbler was the one who toured us.  He was friendly and genuinely loved entertaining people.

I came home singing the Star- Spangled Banner.  It got stuck in my head.

O ho say can you see,  by the dawn’s early light, what’s so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming……..

At 12 midnight,  my daughter asked me “Mom,  are you singing the National Anthem of America?”

  1. Why would you tease your male readers with a picture of an attractive and engaged naval officer? =)

Also, when I was little, I and all of my classmates thought that the national anthem went: “Oh say can you see / by the Dodgerly light…” Wasn’t until much later that I learned the correct lyrics!

  2. I’m truley glad you enjoyed your tour, I enjoyed the pictures and the commintary. Have a great day.
