We had a dozen earthquakes in just one hour- one after another

Last Friday, January 30, 2026, while I was in the living room, the house shook in one strong motion, then stopped. About five seconds later, a smaller earthquake followed and then everything went quiet. I thought that was the end of it.

This morning, however, I was jolted awake at 6:27 a.m. by a magnitude 3.4 earthquake originating from the Calaveras Fault, with the epicenter in San Ramon. Before I could even fully compose myself, it was followed by a few more shakes.

Just as I was starting to doze off again, the house began swaying—not a quick jolt this time, but a long, rolling motion. This one felt serious: a 4.2 quake, followed by more earthquakes one after another. I lost count.

I thought I felt about eight in total, but others reported experiencing as many as 24. In San Francisco, some people said they felt around 30, though most were smaller.

I had the shakiest morning of my life. I thought it was never going to stop. Parang medyo nahilo ako sa sobrang sunud-sunod.

According to the neighborhood report, there was a 3.0-magnitude earthquake that struck at 3:04 p.m. this afternoon, about two miles southeast of San Ramon. Thankfully, we didn’t feel that one because we were driving to Target.

Then, a little past 8 p.m. tonight, another earthquake shook the daylights out of me. Whew! Kung natagalan pa yun, tatakbo na talaga ako palabas ng bahay.

I was trying to digest what was happening and I honestly feel confused.  Parang hindi tutoo.  I have never heard of consecutive earthquakes and let alone experience it myself.  My only personal experience was when the Ruby Tower collapsed in Manila due to a strong 7. earthquake.  The days following were full of aftershocks,  but not dozens in a row.

This area has been getting a swarm of earthquakes since November 2025.  According to the geological institute,  the Calaveras Fault constantly releases pressure from the cracks and is not a prelude to a big one.

But nothing stops those cracks to move faster, stronger, causing intensity 6 or higher.  That would be really, really scary and could cause damage to lives and properties.

Saan kaya tayo lilipat na walang lindol?  If not earthquake, other places have tornado, snowstorm, heatwave, ano pa ba meron.  Lahat there’s some kind of risk.

I wish and pray there will be no big earthquakes either here, there, or everywhere.  Nakakatakot.

My cousin, who lives in New Jersey, which is presently buried in snow, said the earthquakes are coming because the “end of time is near”, kaya daw “keep on praying”.
