We’ve been to Dubai International Airport many times before. We know it’s nice and big, but it can also be tiring to walk around. My carry-on luggage was heavy — even with wheels, I still got tired. My laptop made it extra heavy.
I wanted to buy a small gold bar, something light — kasing gaan ng bulak — so it wouldn’t be too expensive. The Filipina saleslady showed me a one-kilo, 99% pure silver bar. When I held it, ang bigat!
The price of silver has considerably gone up because the price of gold also went up. Some people shifted to silver as hedge. Since sobrang mahal na ang gold, silver na lang ang binibili nung iba.
Instead of Suisse gold, Suisse silver na lang.
Our suitcases were already heavy, so I decided against it.
My husband wondered why I even wanted to buy a silver bar. He said if I were to buy one, it should be gold. I told him, “Eh, hindi ako si Chavit Singson! I can’t afford a gold bar, so silver na lang.”
Ano daw purpose ng silver. Aba madami, kutsara at pag inaway nya ako, meron na akong ibabato sa kanya.
I felt nostalgic — naalala ko nung maliit pa ako. My Papa used to have a whole can full of silver coins. One day, a trader came by, going house to house, and I told Papa not to sell them. But he was convinced, and in the end, the man only paid him fifty pesos. Sayang talaga. And now here I am, thinking of buying silver at a much higher price. Life really has a funny way of coming full circle — parang sayang talaga.
