2nd day in Tokyo

Our sched is different than that of the President. Today he and his entourage went to the city of tsunami-ravaged Sendai, a two-hour travel by bullet train, plus an hour by boat and half- hour by bus more or less. He donated US$1,000,000 to the city to help in their recovery efforts. This amount is miniscule in comparison to the donations Japan gives us whenever our country gets hit by calamities, but it’s a sincere gesture from our government.
Until now, many are still living in the evacuation centers.

The President’s meeting today with the Filipino community was very successful, Showbiz superstar Piolo Pascual entertained the over-excited crowd, courtesy of our Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Manolo Lopez.

I was puyat the past several nights so today I skipped the economic briefings and business matching session, and instead, I stayed in bed the whole morning. I went out to eat lunch and did some exploring in the nearby streets. I didn’t dare go beyond 5 blocks from the hotel as it was
raining and for fear of getting lost.

I bought some tiny souvenirs dagdag kalat sa bahay, a t-shirt for my son that says Tokyo on the front. I also found a cotton checkered dress that looks like a maid’s uniform
but extremely pricey. Even if the tindera spent ten minutes zipping me up, I Still bought it. I hope it doesn’t add to my collection of “when i lost weight dresses”. The more I stare at it, the more that I am convinced it really looks
like a yaya uniform. I am not sure if I can still return it, super mahal pa mandin, more expensive than Anne Fontaine. Made in Japan daw kasi. The buttons are pearls, baka Mikimoto kaya mahal. I wonder if the receipt says no return
no exchange, they’re in Japanese.

Every item here in Ginza is expensive. This is not a good place for a shopping tour especially for a peso earner like me.

I attended a formal cocktails reception tonight hosted by Rococo Global Techonologies. Held on the 37th floor of ANA Intercontinental Hotel, it was attended by Japan’s top officials of the Democratic Party. It was arranged by Ambassador Manolo Lopez. His son, Beaver Lopez, gave the

closing remarks and thanked the hosts on behalf of our group, Philippines, Inc.

We went back to the Imperial Hotel at 830 pm in time for the arrival of Pnoy. This dinner naman was sponsored by Marubeni Corporation, who has many business interests in the Philippines which include mining.

The President didn’t even have time to sit-down for a few minutes. He went straight to the front of the function room and photo ops agad. Ang bait naman nya’ hindi suplado. He
happily signed our photo together taken in China. I came very prepared with a pentel pen.

HE also did not eat, after the picture taking, he left right away. All these happened in just half-hour ang bilis.
Appear, pose pose, disappear.
