Back to Philippine Airlines

When we came to the US in October of last year, we took Delta instead of Philippine Airlines because PAL was having a labor problem during that time we didn’t want to get caught in the middle of their violent confrontation. This time we went back to PAL.

Edmund and I left Manila on the night of June 14. We were supposed to leave on June 9 but had to postpone for 5 days because of extremely busy schedule most especially of Edmund because he’s in-charge of some construction, that’s why he’s only staying here for a week and would be back in Manila this friday.

(I reported for work on June 14, and had late lunch at Mr. Choi’s. After I finished my bowl of congee, Oyen called saying she’s also in the area. I ordered wanton soup for her.

My son and girlfriend Jill had dinner with us at home to see us off. Edmund and I left the house at 7 pm. We were lucky the traffic to NAIA was lighter than usual.

We had no maleta, just a balikbayan box containing all bilins and pasalubongs and a few clothes.

They have several paintings, and I really liked this. There’s a balikbayan from Redwood City named Tita who was seated below these paintings while I took photos. She stood up and looked at the paintings, she said, she liked them too. She worked for PAL as flight attendant for 20 years, retired, and is now working for Walgreens in San Mateo.

Greg Yu (in pink stripes shirt) was also in the same flight. We talked a little bit about Mazda, he’s flying to San Francisco for a two day meeting then he comes back. Greg Yu sits in the board of several corporations namely Philippine Airlines, Sterling Bank, PBCom and Cats Motors.

After 3 bowls of free lugaw from PAL Mabuhay Lounge, our flight left on time.

It was a Boeing 747-400 and we occupied seats #2- H and K. Despite what most people say about Philippine Airlines, the service we had during the flight was very good. The stewardess was very attentive.
There was only one downside, after a giggly 20 minutes watching Canadian comedy Laughs for Gags, my television stopped working, and for the rest of the 12 hour flight! I couldn’t sleep pa naman, and the flight attendants noticed that I was the only one awake in our cabin.

TV- oh my buhay

I preferred PAL’s Bangus Pinais or Pinais na Bangus which they used to serve on long-hauls. They replaced it with this one that’s not as good.

This dried mango wrapped with chocolate is very good. It’s from Cebu.

Finally, after tossing and turning in my fully reclinable seat, we landed safely at the San Francisco International Airport.
