I saw a nice set of white and blue cups and saucers displayed at the Frazzled Cook Restaurant. I like it a lot and offered to buy it but the chef/owner is not selling. He likes to collect these things and he said the white and blue color is rare. I am still hoping that he would sell it to me in the future. He said he found them in Bangkal, Makati, the street where antique stores abound.

I have heard of this place long time ago but I never got interested to go. First, the thought of walking under the heat of the sun and along the narrow streets with stray dogs and wayward vehicles scare me.

But because of my desire to find a similar pattern of that nice set of china, I went to Bangkal on tuesday, January 10.

Bangkal is actually very near our office and this is also where the poor West Tower is situated. (Poor because according to Atty. Lorna Kapunan, the gas still leaks, the residents are kawawa).

I didn’t see anything similar to the pattern I came here for. The vendors pointed me to this place they call “the garage”. Marami daw ditong pinggan. The owner imports dinnerwares and tea sets from England. Thousands of plates, cups and saucers are scattered on the floor, sorted by color and placed in boxes. They are not actually matching in design, the seller just group them according to colors and similar designs or pattern.

I instructed my driver to check the bottom of the plates to see where they’re from. I didn’t buy anything because I got irritated asking for the prices and the tindero didn’t know them. Everytime I asked he had to call and text the owner. The guy told me they would only be here till saturday.
