Goodbye Ellen - Oh My Buhay

Goodbye Ellen

At 5:20 am yesterday morning, Ellen Avendan-Yee, 52, the wife of my brother -in-law Edwin, succumbed to her year-and-a-half long bout with cancer that started in her colon. Ellen, with her loving husband always by her side, fought so hard to arrest the spread of cancer which when discovered was already in her liver, lungs, and then ovary. She underwent treatments at the Fuda Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou, China, with the hope of prolonging her life but nothing happened, except for the huge financial toil.

Ellen and I have traveled together three years ago. I received a free all expenses-paid holiday for two to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia courtesy of MAA Insurance and I brought her along. I normally do not share room with people other than my immediate family members but I felt comfortable sharing a room with Ellen. She had a very good personality, blending and making friends with the rest of the tour group. While I just plunked into bed at the end of the day, she, took her time and read prayer books.

Ellen and Edwin were inseparable, always together 24/7. They’re active leaders of the Couples for Christ. Ellen shall be dearly missed not only by her family and relatives, but also by the hundreds whose lives she had touched through their ministries.

Goodbye Ellen, may your soul and the souls of all the departed rest in peace. Amen.
