Belated Happy Birthday 'pa

May 18’s my father’s birthdate.  He passed away a few days before his 80th birthday due to cancer of the colon which was already in Stage IV when discovered.

My father loved watching detective and action movies.  When we were still living in Binangonan, some of his favorites were Hawaii 5-O,  Mission Impossible, Streets of San Francisco, I Dream of Genie.   Add the Gabi ng Lagim every friday night.

One night,  my mom had tantrums and commented something about my father being glued on tv.  He got mad and climbed up on the roof and dismantled the antenna. There were no sky cable or discovery yet that time. He didn’t watch tv for 4 days.  On the 5th day,  I saw him on the roof fixing the putol-putol na antenna.

He went to Manila weekly and would watch “double-showing” movies.

His love for a good movie was even enabled when he lived in Hayward.  There were so many cinemas that allowed him to hop from one movie to another.  Friends and family gave him movie passes as gifts.

Happy Birthday Pa,  since you are now in heaven,  the earth is now your movie screen.  You can see every happening,  every life story, every drama and life’s real action too.  Happy watching.

And watch over us too.
