We watched the Tagalog movie Honor Thy Father at the Cinema 3 of the old Eastwood during the Metro Manila Film Festival on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2016 after the Holy Mass.

Honor thy Father movie tickets

Cinema 3 is old and the screen is dark. It didn’t do justice to the movie. Eastwood should upgrade their screens.

John Lloyd Cruz and Meryll Soriano play the lead roles as Edgar and Kaye, a couple with one young daughter. Meryll is engaged in an investment scheme promising huge returns. It was started by her father. Tirso Cruz is Bishop Tony, a pastor, preacher, religious group leader collecting tons of donations from his parishioners. William Martinez is there too, as Pastor Obet, the side-kick of Bishop Tony. His real-wife Yayo Aguila plays Jessica, the wife of Dan Hernandez, investors of Kaye.

Before the movie started, Edmund told me to wake him up in case he starts snoring. The 1 hour and 40 minutes movie kept his eyes glued on the screen. Me din, I felt so sleepy before the screening. But the suspense scenes kept me awake the whole time.

Except for a brief mention of John Lloyd’s father in the movie, we thought the title was nowhere to be found in the setting, plot, characters, theme and conflict. Maybe they’re saying Edgar didn’t follow his father’s wishes kaya hayun, napariwara.

It was a good movie anyway.
