I discovered that I am a sharpshooter after my kids and I spent 2 1/2 hours yesterday afternoon at the Strongman Shooting Range, the only state of the art shooting facility in the country.
I came from the office, feeling sluggish, exhausted and very sleepy. I was just there to accompany my children especially my daughter who was the one who arranged for this mother and children strange way of bonding.
I had zero expectations and one interest, that’s to find something to eat. I was thrilled that they have a coffee shop serving potato chips and tuna sandwich.
I was the least interested to be here, because I have fear of guns. When we were called to the seminar room, for a short gun safety handling orientation, all three of us sat on the last row. Everytime the instructor picks up the gun, my eyes blink and my heart jumps.
Anyway, our yesterday was very high in adrenaline. We all learned how to properly handle a gun, how to load it, how to fire (you bet), how to shoot accurately. And the biggest surprise of all, I scored 19/20. The one shot landed on the neck, instead of the heart (scary).
There are at least a hundred gun safety rules but these could be summarized into four. Please remember all this by heart:
Rule number one——- ALWAYS ASSUME THAT A GUN IS LOADED.
Rule number two——- NEVER POINT YOUR GUN TO SOMETHING THAT YOU DO NOT INTEND TO SHOOT.
rULE number three—- NEVER PUT YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER UNLESS YOU ARE READY TO SHOOT.
Rule nubmer four—– BE AWARE OF WHAT’S AROUND YOUR TARGET. Kasi baka may tamaan kang iba.
They showed an illustration board of Michael Jackson dancing behind the target board. The instruction “Peachy” said that’s the real cause of Michael Jackson’s death. He was dancing while someone is practice shooting.
The fee included gun rental and 20 rounds of ammunition. They gave me a 9mm.
When I saw the cardboard that we are going to target, I thought “naku ang liit naman, baka ni hindi ko tamaan, meron ba kayong red cartolina”?
Our classmates, Petron basketball players
The gave my son a 40mm kaya he had difficulty at first.
I could not even pull the portion of the gun because it was hard and heavy. But after a while I learned the technic. This is how you load the , I forgot how it’s ccalled, yung lalagyan ng bala?
Red ones are 5 meters distance, the blue are from 10 meters away. Nakakaduling, tsambahan lang.
I received a very high compliment from the instructor. He asked if it’s really my first time to shoot, I said yes.

Oh wow, who me?
