Job Interview

I was extremely busy last Friday. In the morning I interviewed applicants for the Service Advisor and Marketing positions. It’s been difficult finding a perfect match. Hiring someone is like buying an expensive pair of shoes. You look at it, try it on, walk with it, hoping it would feel great that your legs and feet won’t hurt. The school where they came from represents the brand of the shoes. You pay a little bit more if it’s branded hoping it would be worth your money.

I interviewed four guys who were all graduates of Mechanical Engineering and board passers at that. I was so frustrated because during the interview, the word “clueless” were etched on their faces. They didn’t even know what a Sevice Advisor was. A smart applicant would find out first what they’re applying for. Get at least the basic info. All of them answered that a Service Advisor is one that sells cars.

I have interviewed a female applicant for a sales position. When I asked her what a steering wheel was, her face went blank. She just didn’t know. I gave her another chance by asking what a head light was. She simply didn’t know anything at all. She was a university graduate.
