Taal Volcano is erupting

I woke up this morning completely unaware of what is going on in my native land. Taal volcano is erupting and the ashes reached Metro Manila, and of course, our farm which is a step shy of 3 kilometers from the ridge. My husband was surprised that I didn’t know. This is what he always tells me, to regularly check Facebook, Viber, and Messenger. Lagi akong huli sa balita.

Our livestock is in danger. Edmund told the caretaker to secure Shallow, Harry, Daisy, and put them inside the kamalig (barn). Our kamalig is just roof and posts. It has no wall, it’s not enclosed. Kawawa rin our chickens, hindi sila makahinga sa abo (ash). I also messaged Melda, my caretaker in another place closer to the ridge. Baka bumagsak bubong sa ashes.

I GOT THIS PHOTOS FROM VIBER. I’ve seen many incredible images captured on camera. Sayang wala ako dun sa Tagaytay.

Honestly, it’s been about a year that I’ve been thinking that the volcano could erupt one day and the ashes and rocks could reach our tiny farm. I thought that was only my fear. Now it’s happening.

I have a small place located about 100 steps to the ridge and my caretaker hasn’t responded to my text. I am a little worried. My bigger worry is our chickens, the two cows and the horse, and our two dogs living in our farm. I can’t imagine that their lungs could be filled with harmful black ashes. Our trees and plants are also in danger. I hope they grow back.

Oyen suspended work today so the employees could be indoors and not have to travel.

I’ve seen a photo of a car covered in black ashes. I hope the ashes don’t cause damage to the car’s paint. We have brand new cars parked outdoors. I hope they are fine.

We need rain to wash-off those harmful ash fall. I couldn’t imagine it entering our lungs.

I am praying for everyone’s safety.
