Tuesday, May 20, 2014 I reserved this day for my family.

After the dentist clinic, I bought tube ice and drinks for Oyen’s professor and panelists. I went home and rested for a while. I watched You’ve Got Mail on cable for 15 minutes. Lumang-luma na but I still enjoy watching this movie even if I have seen it two dozen times at least.

At 12:30 noon, I loaded 5 bottles of water, 3 cans of coke, 3 bottles of orange juice in a red cooler. I filled the cooler with tube ice.

I rushed to the office to sign some documents, tapos takbo na sa Ateneo Graduate School of Business near Rockwell. I had no trouble going inside. I just informed the guard that I would go up to the second floor. They didn’t have second thoughts of letting me in. Hindi naman ako mukhang magnanakaw ng laptop at libro ng mga estudyante kaya siguro pinapasok ako.

AGSB Room 211

We looked for room 211 where Oyen would have her 3-4 pm thesis defense. It was only 2 pm. The mother is super aga.

waiting at Ateneo lounge

The stage mother patiently waited at the lounge with no aircon and electric fan.
I got worried when I saw my companion’s kwarentaysinko sticking out from his bewang. Baka kami mapalabas. Buti naman walang nag check. I just needed him to carry the cooler with ice and drinks.

Oyen arrived shortly after and we both killed time inside the school chapel on the ground floor. The aircon was off but there were wall fans. The chapel is gadget friendly. They have plenty of electrical sockets which proved useful. I was able to charge my battery.

We didn’t have to bring drinks pala because the school set up a buffet table with drinks, ice cooler, spaghetti, toasts, etc. The food’s for the panelists.
Ateneo buffet, revalida

I met Oyen’s professor, Mrs. Teodoro before the start of Oyen’s revalida.
We became instant friends. She’s such a nice person and I wish her good health.
Oyen's Ateneo Professor, Mrs. Teodoro

The defense was done in a little over an hour. I saw Yen leave the room, while the professors deliberated. Then Mrs. Teodoro came out and called Oyen. She shook her hand, she passed. The big question mark is the grade.
Oyen needed a perfect 4 in all areas to get a gold medal.

Her professor gave my daughter a perfect 4 but the three other panelists didn’t. Meron daw kulang yung thesis nya. Based on Oyen’s computation of her grade, she’s short by .01 or .02. Sayang ano? She was teary eyed kasi nakaka hinayang naman talaga.

My daughter enrolled at the Ateneo Graduate school with our hesitations. First sem palang pinag-da-drop na ni Edmund. I was sending her to Harvard or Wharton but she didn’t want to leave for the US kasi daw mawawalan na naman sya ng friends from Manila. We respected her decision. She enrolled in Ateneo to meet new friends, which she has achieved naman. The diploma is just gravy. Her honors is icing. She only found out that she has honors pala just recently. Kawawa din kasi she has a very demanding and stressful job. Many times, she couldn’t leave the office in time for her class, na le-late sya. She prepared for her thesis in such a short time. During the day, she couldn’t work on her thesis because of her job. Can you imagine if she had more time? Perfect na nya talaga yan.

Congratulations anak.
