I hired a new household staff.  She has ten years experience as a cook.  She worked for 7 years in Ayala Alabang, etc.  and recently, just for 2 months in White Plains.  Her sister is the kusinera of Sandy Andolong’s mother.   I interviewed her last night and I have a feeling she would be a more normal cook, though she doesn’t spek Inglesh.  And since she’s also from Iloilo like my husband,  she would know how to cook some of Edmund’s favorite dishes.  My friend Katrina is coming over tonight,  so I told Annabelle to prepare 3 dishes,  yung masarap, para ma-try ko luto nya.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

My husband said just hire and hire so that when one or two leaves,  we have spare.

Joyce has felt that she’s in danger.  She told my daughter she’s worried I would fire her.  Yesterday morning she told me she wants to stay, she wants to work for us,  and that she wants to “serve us with love” (full of action pa, with her arms in an embrace).  I hope she didn’t have my husband in mind when she said “serve with love”.

This morning I could tell that she was agitated by my silence.  Hindi ko na sya ini-inglesh.  She watched my every move.  I was reading the newspaper and she grabbed a chair,  “Mam, pls sit down”.

Me— What do we have for breakfast?

Joyce—  I made omelette.

Me—-anong klase?

Joyce— Dulong.  And dilis, and champorado

Me—-   Napapagod ako sayo.  I thought I have given you instructions…… I don’t like…

Joyce—  Okay, Mam,  if you don’t like,   do you want  I will cook sayote?
