Julienne and I treated the accounting girls to a little R&R today. We skipped lunch and brought them to Waltermart for the first showing of The Mistress, the movie starring John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Hilda Koronel and Ronaldo Valdez directed by Olivia Lamasan.
We left at 11:30 am and was back in the office before 2 pm.
The accounting staff have been working overtime and I just wanted to show our appreciation for their loyalty and dedication. We had popcorns and hotdogs.
I can’t say that I liked the movie. Pilipino script writers are very good in injecting many twists and turns, I know, I watch teleseryes. But the Mistress‘ plot makes me feel icky.
Federico Torres (Ronaldo Valdez) is a rich businessman married to Hilda Koronel. His eldest son whom he was grooming to be his heir apparent died. He doesn’t see eye to eye with his youngest son Federico “Eric” Torres, Jr. (John Lloyd) who is an architect. Rosario or Sari (Bea Alonzo) works at the Hidalgo Tailoring Shop where he met Ronaldo Valdez. She needed money for her Lola’s heart operation and Mr. Torres spent for it in exchange for her Thursdays. They have a love nest where they go to every thursday.
Torres’ wife Hilda Koronel knows that her husband has a mistress whom he sees every thursday. Her husband had always been a womanizer and Sari has been his mistress for the past 5 years.
Because of her depression caused by her husband’s womanizing, she fell in love with an artist named Juan Diego, and she bore him a child (Eric). Eric only found out when he was already 22 years old when one day while his mother was so drank, she spilled the beans. Her husband knew about Juan Diego and he also knew that Eric is not his biological son but he accepted that and even named him his junior.
Eric (John Lloyd) met Sari in National Bookstore and saw her again inside the tailoring shop where she works. It was love at first sight for Eric.
Eric found out that Sari is his father’s mistress but he was already very much in love with her so he tried to win her away from his father. Sari initially did not know that both her boyfriends are father and son because Eric introduced himself as JD. Sari and JD fell in love and they had sex together.
Ronaldo Valdez had a heart attack and died after he got so mad with his son after he discovered that Eric and Sari spent the night together.
I felt relieved that The Mistress’ ending did not show Eric and Sari ending up together because that would really be appalling. Imagine Eric marrying his father’s long-time mistress. Imagine Hilda Koronel introducing her daughter in law, “By the way, please meet my beautiful daughter in law, who used to f my husband, and now my son”.
