I was the last person on earth who didn’t know about the Aldub phenomenon.

A month ago, my husband mentioned that there’s a segment in the long-running noontime variety show, Eat Bulaga, called Kalyeserye of the “Juan for All, All for Juan” segment that has become a super hit. The talented hosts are two guys, Wally Bayola, as Lola Nidora and another guy, Paolo Ballesteros, as Lola Tidora or Lola Isadora. There’s also a kilig factor, when they started the tuksuhan between the yaya Dub (Divina Ursula Bokbokova Smash) derived from Dubsmash, played by Maine Mendoza and the handsome Alden Richards, as himself.

I am a little familiar with the comedian Wally Bayola because there was a show before where he was also a mainstay. I have never watched it but when I surfed the tv for shows, minsan nadadaanan ko ng tingin.

Two weeks ago, I chanced upon a short news article about how successful the show had become. Joey de Leon said that they too were surprised and amazed. That they didn’t know the script because it’s basically their talented soldiers on the ground, Wally and the gang, who deliver the punches spontaneously. They lead and people follow with kilig.

I haven’t seen an episode of this Aldub thing. I am sure it would make me chuckle and forget the maids and traffic stresses. One of this days I’ll sit and watch. I’d like to feel kilig too.

The two fictional “Tamang Panahon” lovebirds, Yaya Dub and Alden #AlDub landed on the front cover of no less than the Manila Bulletin.

Maine Mendoza (Nicomaine Del Capili Mendoza) and Alden Richards (Richard Reyes Faulkerson, Jr.) have a forthcoming movie, My Bebe Love which would be shown at the Manila Film Festival.
