HR Final Interview

May 17, 2019, Friday

His resume was forwarded to me by a relative of mine who is an assistant vice president of a multinational firm. I read it first to see if he has the proper education and experience that we’re looking for. I had him called for a personal interview. Parang pwede naman sya. I just had a slight reservation. After a week, Oyen interviewed him. He was interviewed again by another officer while I was abroad. My daughter and I discussed several times over the phone the attributes of the two top candidates each very different from the other.

As soon as I returned to Manila on May 15, I had him called again, this time, for a final interview. I would make a decision right on the spot whether to hire him or the other applicant.
After the final interview, I hired Rommel to be the HR manager. It was a long process of finding the right fit. After careful thought and evaluation, we decided to give him a try. He has a masters degree, is a college professor, a former chairman of Sangguniang Kabataan, etc. He has many years of work experience in HR and in dealing with hundreds of employees. He seems to be a nice guy. However, an effective and competent HR goes beyond being nice. I hope Rommel measures up.

When I asked him what time he wanted to report for work, 8 am, 8:30 am, or 9 am.
He said kahit daw ano pwede sya. He is used to working at odd hours. His call time in his previous job was 1 am.

I instructed him to come at 8 am. I was told that on his first day, he arrived at 6 am. I liked that.

All employees, whether an officer or rank-and-file must read, understand, memorize the company policies. And follow.
