The news about the fake or manufactured rice really hit me. Ever since I heard the news, I became even more paranoid. I not only look at the etiketa of clothes and shoes if it’s made in China, I now inspect the labels of food sold in the groceries.

My blood boiled when I saw this article as an over-reaction.

I read that the rice was mixed with resin as a binder. Siguro kaya it would cause infertility. Baka magka-dikit-dikit ang iyong ano.

There are hundreds of products from China that are sold in supermarkets such as rice, noodles, luncheon meat and many are not labeled properly. Or madalas the labels are so tiny, not properly marked, hidden.

Are we importing frozen chicken from them? How about eggs? There are fake eggs too.

From now on, the source / origin of the products and EXPIRY dates must be in BIG letters and conspicuously stamped / marked on the label. There must be a minimum font size such as 14 pts so that even people without reading glasses would be able to read them. This must also be required on drugs.

There are also soy sauce, shrimp sauce, etc. that are from China. My fear is that one day there would be news saying that those are laced with some harmful chemicals. So as a precautionary measure, I buy patis from reputable Filipino companies and from Thailand.

There are honest companies located in China that produce quality products, however, there are also many who cut corners in total disregard for people’s welfare and safety in exchange for big profits. Let’s not forget that we Filipinos are to blame too for importing those sub-standard and harmful merchandise.
