Street People

The street beggars have multiplied and they are mostly children. I am not sure if it’s just Christmas or there are really so many of them today.

The other night I went around the San Andres, Mabini area in Manila and gave grocery packs to some people I found lurking in darkness and sleeping on the pavements. I went as far as Roxas Blvd, Pandacan, Sta. Mesa, San Juan.

It’ easy to buy grocery items, what’s more difficult is how to find those who are missing meals. There are many who eat only once in 3 days.

Ermita is home to the klieg lights. But in the midst of these fun establishments, there are thousands of squatters in the surrounding areas and thousands more living in the streets.

When night time comes, you see them sleeping soundly on the sidewalk, under the trees, and in any tiny space that gives them some privacy and comfort.

Streetpeople- oh my buhay

This “house” is at M.H. Del Pilar Street, in front of what used to be the Crispa Redmanizers’ basketball players’ quarters. I know this place by heart. Edmund lived here for 2 years with Tito Varela, Rudy Distrito, etc. when he played for Crispa. That was long time ago, mag byfriend pa lang kami.

Mario, the white supot is from me. I gave him 2 packs so that he would have food for a few days. When I opened my vehicle door, I smelled a very strong odor coming from his possessions and most likely he hasn’t bathe for months. Ang masama pa, medyo naka inom sya!
Tinagayan daw sya dun sa kanto.
A lot of these people, when they earn some money, the first thing they do is to buy liquor.
