Window Shopping in Taipei

The luncheon hosted by TECO Chairman Theodore Huang at his restaurant Royal Host lasted till 2:30 pm. We were brought back to Regent Hotel immediately after for the scheduled meetings with the Taiwan Shipbuilding Industry and next would be with the Taiwan Footwear group. I skipped both meetings because I wanted to walk around the hotel and explore a little bit of Taipei.

I have been here twice before but I no longer remember how this placed looked like. Aileen and I joined a package tour some 25 years ago. My second trip was when a group of handicrafts exporters from the Philippines joined the Asian International Exhibition, and that was 20 years ago.

It was raining when I went out of Regent Hotel but that did not deter me from crossing the street and do some window shopping. The shops around the hotel are mostly branded and high-end.

There’s a Brand-Off boutique just beside the hotel. Brand-off has branches in other countries. There are many of them around Hongkong and Tokyo. I am wondering where and how they are able to secure a lot of Hermes Birkins when the authorized Hermes stores don’t have a single thing. Brand-off’s prices are about twice the selling prices in Hermes boutiques. They’re actually what you call “black market”. If you want a Birkin bag right here right now, then you can buy from black market stores at double the price.

Paris Hilton was carrying a Hermes Birkin bag with an exact same color as this when she went to SM Megamall for the grand launching of her Paris Hilton bag store. She went inside a holding room, then when she came out, she was already holding a Paris Hilton bag.

There’s also a nice hotel nearby.

On the other side of the street is the Louis Vuitton boutique. I did not go in. LV bags have become “must-haves” of women kaya it’s seen everywhere most especially the less expensive styles.
