Lunch with Joe and Tiffany @Ratskeller Munchen

We skipped the whole day guided tour of BMW and Dachau Concentration Camp to have a more relaxing day. We’ve been walking and sitting for long hours on the bus our senior bodies are already shouting take it easy. And since we failed to see Joe and Tiffany last night at the Oktoberfest, we have a good opportunity to do it today. We’re meeting for lunch at a restaurant called Ratskeller Munchen located right at the Town Hall in Marienplatz.

We took a 30-minute taxi ride from our hotel outside of the city center to Marienplatz.

It’s been raining in Germany ever since we arrived on Monday. It’s not pleasant to walk around the lovely plaza while getting wet even with an umbrella. Meron pa ring anggi.

At long last, we found them.  Joe and Tiffany are close friends of our daughter.  They were schoolmates at Fordham University.  Oyen attended Tiff’s wedding in Hawaii.  Joe spent a week with us in Manila in May 2012.  Wow, I didn’t realize it’s been 10 years.   Parang kailan lang.

Ratskeller was recommended to them by a friend and I was glad they picked this restaurant. I instantly liked the old-world ambiance as soon as we entered the restaurant.

Construction of the building and restaurant started on August 25, 1867, and they opened on August 1, 1874.

The current chef is Michael Schubaur, who trained under the famous Bavarian Michelin star chef Otto Koch.

Cheers to friendship, and happy travels.

Edmund and I have been eating meat and heavy breakfasts so for today’s lunch, we ordered soup and salad.

Caesar Salad each for ECY and I.

Joe and Tiffany joined the recently concluded Berlin Marathon. When I asked if they finished the whole stretch, the answer was yes. When I asked what was the total distance, they said 42 kilometers. Oh my that’s long. My next question was “how many days?” They all laughed at me. They finished daw in four hours and the champion finished in just two hours. Wow, amazing. Grabe, ako nga naka kotse na 10 kilometers lang pauwi sa hapon eh two hours na pag payday, raining, and Friday.
42 kilometers is roughly 60,000 steps. My goal is to be able to make 3,000 steps a day. Yan lang nga madalas hindi ko pa magawa.
I wish Oyen were here too.

Tiffany and Joe each ordered Pork Knuckle – Schweinshaxe

I was the only one who had dessert.  Tiffany was in a hurry. She had to rush to the airport to catch her flight back to New York.

Coppa Amarena— Vanilla ice cream, cherries, whipped cream, amarena cherry sauce, croquant

A deliciously sweet dessert is always gratifying.   Pleasing to the eyes, pleasing to my sweet tooth.

Joe’s taking the overnight train back to Berlin and then off to Philadelphia.   He is dear to us and I see him like family.  We hope he comes to visit us again soon in Manila and stays longer so he could explore some of our country’s beautiful beaches.

Groovy shoes.   Wearing two different shoes had happened to me before. Hindi ko napansin.  Someone just said “ay si mam, magka-iba ang sapatos.”
