Acute Myelogenous Leukemia

Two weeks after Ka Lydia’s grand 75th birthday celebration last September 2011, she developed some sickness which after a series of tests was confirmed to be acute myelogenous leukemia, a form of cancer characterized by the growth of abnormal cells inside the bone marrow. This is a common cancer among men and women aged 60 and above.

Causes could be exposure to radiation, certain chemicals like chemotheraphy drugs. Younger patients have of course stronger bodies so they are able to fight better the effects of chemo which also kills the normal cells. Older people like Ka Lydia have lesser survival rate.
